San Jose Buddhist Church Betsuin Disaster Relief Fund
The Betsuin Disaster Relief Fund was established by the Board of Directors in 2017 with a committee comprised of Sangha members that is guided by processes and procedures. The Committee appeals to Sangha members, families and friends to donate to help relieve the specific disasters. It also strives to donate to organizations that have a personal connection to our temple. We have also conducted “Dana Days” where we have food sales and other fundraisers and events to raise awareness of these issues. Osaisen (service offerings) collected at services are earmarked for this funds as well.
Since 2017, the Disaster Relief Fund has donated to the following:

Kids Meals Houston where Hurricane Harvey devastated the area. | |
2018 | Boy and Girls Clubs of Puerto Rico who incurred devastation from Hurricane Maria. |
2019 – 2020 | Two Hongwanji Temples in Chiba Prefecture, Japan (Soshin-Ji, Hongaku-Ji) for the devastation incurred from Typhoon Faxai. |
2021 | Higashi Hongwanji Temple of Los Angeles for the property vandalism repairs. |
